Thea Kay Leopoulos had a light that sometimes only comes around once in a lifetime.
As a teenager she had many friends and people whom she cared about, but it wasn’t until her junior year in high school that she discovered her own incredible artistic talents. In just seven short months, Thea went from average grades to rising to the top of her class in speech, art, writing, and drama. The light that drew so many people to her reverberated through her artwork and writings, and as she gained confidence in herself all of her other grades began to climb, too. Awards and accolades soon followed. Getting in touch with her talents seemed to inspire Thea to share her enthusiasm and love of life with others, and her incredible light was spreading farther and wider. Then, on May 28, 2001, just before the end of her junior year, Thea was running errands when a reckless driver swerved in front of her and ran her off the road. She was just seventeen years old.Thea’s parents, Linda and Paul David Leopoulos, have been spreading Thea’s light ever since that fateful day. The THEA foundation was created soon after Thea’s untimely death as a way to provide other young people the opportunity to develop their gifts.
A Rain Falling Star is a compilation of Thea’s thoughtful journal entries for English class interspersed with her beautiful artwork, all of which were first attempts at using the different mediums. We hope her wisdom and talent will provide one of those rare sparks of passionate light we all need in a sometimes dark world. Or in Thea’s beautiful words, may this journal be for you a “rain falling star.”
